Rugby Youth Development Returns

By | Sat 6 Feb 2021

Saturday 6th February saw the resumption of the Lanna Rugby Club’s youth development program after the latest round of Covid restrictions.

An enthusiastic reception from the kids welcomed coach Tom Stubley as he got proceedings underway with some gentle warm up drills which included jockey rides and crab walks, which brought forth plenty of jokes and laughter!

With Erin and Eileentjie who are the beginnings of the Lanna Rugby Clubs Ladies team coming down to give Tom a helping hand, along with Dtun, he had plenty of cannon fodder for the contact drills that followed.

There is no doubt that this is the part of the session that both the girls and boys really look forwards to, hitting the tackle shields and tackle bags. As the session progressed speed and agility drills were introduced to the contact session. It was obvious that the enforced break had not diminished their enthusiasm and the ball handling skills are improving with each session.

It surely wont be long before the makings of a youth team will be ready to compete and we are all looking forward to the day that they make their debut!

As the session came to an end there were plenty of tired but happy faces with an excitement around the group that they could finally get back to playing rugby!

The Saturday sessions will continue from 1.30pm till 2.30 pm and are open to all kids from all age groups. For more information contact Tom on lannarugbyclub@gmail.com
