Do you know a high school student between the ages of 15-19 in Northern Thailand who would want to experience another culture and language during a high school year? The Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) Programme through Rotary International offers an opportunity to go to another country for an academic year and experience another culture, develop leadership skills and build new lifelong friendships.

Rotary Youth Exchange is a Rotary International student exchange programme for students in secondary school. Since 1929, Rotary International has sent young people around the globe to experience new cultures. Typically, about 9,000 students are sponsored by Rotary clubs every year in more than 100 participating countries.

Long-term exchanges last a full academic year, and students attend local schools and live with multiple host families. The youth exchange student’s room and board are provided, as well as any school fees. Each programme varies, but students are usually responsible for round-trip airfare, travel insurance, travel documents (such as passports and visas) and spending money and any additional travel or tours.

Siriluck Chaiyawong, the Rotary Chairperson of the Rotary District 3360 Youth Exchange Committee which covers all of Northern Thailand, says of the programme, “The Rotary Youth Exchange Program is an excellent and exciting opportunity for youths to gather new experiences abroad, to learn new languages and cultures, while promoting Thai culture and traditions to foreign friends and host families in countries that the Rotary Youth Exchange of District 3360 currently has ties with. Interested youths and families can learn more about this programme from any participating Rotary Club in Northern Thailand (District 3360), or directly from siriluck55@gmail.com “.

Dr. John Schorr (john@cmirotary.org), The Rotary Youth Exchange Liaison with the Chiang Mai International Rotary Club says, “ CMIRC is hoping to identify Chiang Mai high school sophomores who wish to spend their junior year abroad in an English-speaking country. We are also hoping to find local Thai families who are willing to host an inbound student who will attend a Thai high school for their junior year here in Chiang Mai.”
