New Watering Holes

For many of us, bars are part of our lives: where we meet friends, where we hang out, where we call our second home. Here are a few places where everybody can – if you wish, and not worried about stalkers – know your name.

For many of us, bars are part of our lives: where we meet friends, where we hangout, where we call our second home. Here are a few places where everybody can – if you wish, and not worried about stalkers – know your name.

Terra & The Farmers’ Bar

Slated to be THE destination in Mae Rim for both locals and expats seeking a great local bar and restaurant offering fine wines, fabulous food, great service in a very charming setting, Terra is already becoming a meeting spot, with its prime location right opposite the gate into the Four Seasons Resort. An exquisite hand carved bar, imported from England, is the gathering spot from which punters order wines, cocktails, cold beers and single malts. There are sophisticated little nooks and crannies for more private gatherings and a charming multi-tiered lawn and garden for dining. The mainly international food is delicious, and the prices quite reasonable. Sit in the garden on a lazy Sunday with a crispy pizza fresh out of the oven and a chilled glass of rose, snuggle deep into a sofa and discuss world affairs over some single malt late into the night, perch on the century-old bar and wax nonsense with strangers or bring the family out for a sumptuous dinner under canopies of grape vines. It’s all rather lovely.

North Hill City Resort

If you live in Hang Dong, or don’t mind the short drive, this is the most exciting new development in the area. This new city resort is opulent, modern and convenient, and comes with a great entertainment zone. The Vivace lounge offers a stylish and elegant vibe, serving exquisite cocktails made from seasonal local ingredients. During the day you can also enjoy a cup of fine coffee while sitting in one the comfy leather chairs and while away your day. The Astro Sky Bar on the rooftop oozes romance, especially when accompanied by a fine bottle of French champagne – seriously you can’t go wrong on a date here. Then there is also the Rock Pool Bar where you can sip a beer while bathing in the sun by the pool, jumping in for a refreshing dip when warrented. Sometimes Chiang Mai just takes our breath away (and we aren’t talking about pollution!) with such a fantastic choice of venues to explore.

The Carpenters

This purpose-built multi-level boutique bar offers two distinct ambiences and experiences. Downstairs is a hip and sleek New York city style lounge bar with sophisticated furnishings and finishings, great for a night out with friends or a special someone. While the breezy open-aired second floor deck is infused with a beachy party-vibe with its laid back day beds and tiki bar feel. Inspired by the glittering 70s, so much so that the bar is named after one of the legendary bands from that period, the first floor is designed to attract those with stylish, sophisticated, and a modern international lifestyle. A touch of Thainess is added by the addition of the fusion cuisine, each dish artfully presented. Mixologists shake and mix behind the bar a variety of household name cocktails as well as some innovative inventions crafted to clients’ preferences. The second floor, on the other hand, has more of a casual ambience bringing good vibes from the beach up here to the north. So, whatever mood you are in, The Carpenters Bar is designed to lift it up and up.
