Press Conference Songkran 2018

The Governor of Chiang Mai Pawin Chamniprasart held a press conference at Three Kings Monument to announce the Schedule for Chiang Mai Songkran Festival 2018.

Songkran 2018 will officially last for 3 days; from 13-15 April 2018, there will be a Government holiday from 12-16 April 2018 and all Government offices will be closed during that period (including Immigration).  Highlights of the Songkran Festival are as follows;

April 1 – 12 Various temples including Chang Man Temple, Phra Sing Temple, Lok Ma Lee Temple  and Jed Lin Temple there will be Bathing Rites of  Buddha Images.

April 4-6. 9am until 10pm; Poy Sang Long (Tai Novice Ordinance Ceremony) at Pa Pao Temple.

April 12 6am until 8am; Three Kings Monument; Alms-Giving Ceremony in the celebration of722nd Anniversary of the establishment of Chiang Mai City.

April 13 08.09am until 08.39am; Thapae Gate;  Opening Ceremony for Pee Mai Muang (Songkran) Festival 2018.

April 13 7am until 12noon; Cycling Parade of women riding bicycles holding umbrellas along Thapae Road to Thapae Gate.

April 13 – 14 7pm until midnight; Thapae Gate; Miss and Mister Songkran Contest.

April 14 1.30pm until 5pm; Iron Bridge – temples along Thapae Gate; procession of Holy Bodhi Tree Supportive Wood and Sand Offerings to Temple.

April 15 1.30pm – 6pm; Klangwieng intersection; procession for the Salutation Ornaments for the Governor of Chiang Mai.

April 15 7pm until 11pm Thapae Gate Songkran Kids Contest.
