A press conference was held to announce details of the Yee Peng Festival 2019 from 9 – 12 November 2019. On 9 November there will be a Mister and Miss Kom Yee Peng 2019 competition at Anusarn Market. On 10 November there will be a parade of floating lanterns leaving Thapae Gate at 6pm, down Thapae Road, turning right into Changklan Road Night Bazaar and stopping at Anusarn Market / Panthip Plaza. Between 10 – 12 November there will be workshops teaching how to make krathongs at Anusarn Market.

To celebrate 200 years of U.S.-Thai friendship and enduring U.S. relations with northern Thailand, the U.S. Consulate General will join the Yi Peng (Loy Krathong) Festival Parade in Chiang Mai this year.

There was a Buddhist ceremony at Three Kings Monument for the blessing from Lord Buddha for Loy Krathong 2018 / Yee Peng Festival. The ceremony also included opening of the ‘candle tray lighting ceremony’ accompanied by traditional dancers.

The Mayor of Chiang Mai, Tassanai Buranupakorn told Citylife that Fireworks and release of Komloys are permitted on November 22 and 23 from 7pm until 1am
This year Yee Peng Festival will be held between November 20th and 23rd (right after Citylife Garden Fair!) with a target to reduce the amount of waste produced during the event as much as possible. See the 2018 schedule here.

On November 3rd, the Lanna ritual of floating candlelit baskets, Krathong Sai, will begin at 7pm. On November 4th, the Grand Krathong Parade will begin at 7pm from Tha Pae Gate to Chiang Mai Municipality Office, There will be TWO nights when Lanterns can be released – 3rd and 4th November from 7pm both nights
During the Loy Krathong activities, Jed Lin temple will be hosting The Great Sermon “Tang Tum Luang” Ceremony and the candle tray decoration from the 1st to the 5th. The Great Sermon will also be hosted on November 3rd at eight temples including Suan Dok, Chiang Yuen, Chai Sri Poom, Bupparam, Chai Mongkol, Nuntaram, Rampueng and Jed Yod from 6am to 8pm.
At Loke Molee Temple and the First Church of Chiang Mai, there will be a musical stage campaign for alcohol-free drinks during the festival.
