Ten Injured in Hairpin Bend Collision near Doi Suthep

CityNews – A songtaew bringing tourists down from Doi Suthep temple had an accident with a car.

Around noon today, 18th January 2019, police at Phuping Police Station were alerted to an accident involving multiple victims on the hairpin bend near Doi Suthep temple.

The songtaew had collided with a Toyota Yaris resulting in ten injured people, all of whom were rushed off by emergency services to hospital.

It is believed that the driver of the songtaew, Sompong Kaewprapa, 40, had taken Thai tourists from the South up the mountain to worship at the temple and was at that point on the way back down. At the bend, a tour bus had parked and blocked the way, so before taking over the bus they actually had used their radio to check if the way was clear. However the Toyota had come up unannounced and caused the accident.

Authorities will investigate fully.
