CityNews – Chiang Mai Municipality is reorganising migrants in Santitham.

Along the Atsadathon Road towards Chang Phuak Cemeteryin Santitham area, everyday there are migrant workers hanging around waiting to be employed on both side of the road. This is a known practice, where employers come and pick up migrant labourers for short assignments of one to a few days.

Chiang Mai Municipality together with Chiang Mai Provincial Employment Office, Chiang Mai Public Health Office and Muang Chiang Mai Police have announced that such loitering destroys the appearance of the city and have set up a temporary employment office at the cemetery for these migrant workers and employers to meet, taking them off the streets. The office will reportedly encourage legalising the employment system in the area while creating a ‘positive environment’ for the neighbourhood.
