CityNews – Cricketers of all shapes, sizes and sexes will start flooding into Chiang Mai in the next couple of weeks as the city gears up for the Chiang Mai Sixes. The world’s favourite amateur six-a-side cricket tournament is back for its 32nd year and this year’s visiting players will be delighted to discover that Heineken 0.0 is the new lead sponsor.
Heineken, one of the world’s most loved beer brands has a long history stretching back to 1864 when young Gerard Adriaan Heineken persuaded his mother to buy a popular Amsterdam brewery. A decade later his beer won the coveted Medaille D’Or at the International Maritime Exposition in Paris and the company was launched on the road to becoming a global brand enjoyed in 192 countries around the world.
The company launched Heineken 0.0 in 2017 and it has quickly become established as a leader in the non-alcoholic lager market. The beer which is brewed from scratch with finely balanced refreshing fruity notes and a soft malty body. Perfect for cricketers to quench their thirst after baking on the field of play in Chiang Mai’s sweltering April temperatures.
Heineken has a long history of involvement with prestigious sporting events including sponsorship of Rugby World Cup, UEFA Champions League and Formula 1. That’s rarefied company for the Chiang Mai Sixes to share, but the company was keen to be involved in recognition of the tournament’s long-standing support of the Junior Cricket Programme.
