CityNews – Two victims fell for fake electricity officer.
On August 2nd, Wachirakorn Boonreung, the owner of a hostel in Phra Sing was approached by a scammer who was in disguise as an electricity officer, including wearing a fake badge. The scammer reportedly threatened to cut off the power due to unpaid bills, forcing him to pay nearly 5,000 baht up front. Wachirakorn admitted that he had an overdue bill which added weight to the situation’s legitimacy. Shortly after the incident, after realising that he was scammed, he reported to the police who are now trying to identify the scammer using CCTV.
Police have received a report regarding similar crime occurring on August 3rd in Sa Kaeo which is suspected to be carried out by the same scammer with about 10,000 baht robbed.
