Chiang Mai (Again) has Highest Road Accidents during Songkran

CityNews – Chiang Mai has the highest number of road accidents during Songkran this year.

According to the Road Safety Directing Centre, between the 11th and 15th of April this year there were a total 2,702 accidents in Thailand with 297 deaths and 2,807 casualties. The main cause of the accident is drunk driving (40.68%) while the majority of the vehicles are motorcycles (78.85%). The total number of people prosecuted for violating traffic regulations is 177,418.

Chiang Mai has the highest accumulate number of road accidents (104). The number, however, has been slightly decreased compare to last year which is at 117 during the same period (11th – 15th).
