Body of Monk Found in Cave. Suspected Homicide

CityNews – The body of a monk found by a foreign couple in a cave has led police to open an investigation.

On the after noon of January 30th, a foreign couple, their nationalities not released, who were visiting a cave in Ban Mae Lek, Mae Tha District, Lamphun found a body in the crack of the cave after they followed a strange smell. The body was wrapped in a mattress, blanket, and layers of plastic wrap. The deceased appeared bald headed and wore yellow robes. It is suspected that he had been dead for at least two years, and that he was murdered.

The cave is isolated with only a camp for forestry officers and huts of longan farmers nearby. The location where the body was found is inaccessible by car. Visitors have to walk or ride a motorcycle to get there. The body has been sent to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for autopsy.
