CityNews – Response from authorities to complaints by songtaew drivers against Grab has been swift.

Following complaints against Grab Car service by songtaew, tuk tuk and taxi drivers, the deputy governor of Chiang Mai, along with officers from Chiang Mai International Airport and Department of Land Transport, held a press conference announcing protocols that have been enforced.

The Deputy Governor stated that there have been 10 cars on record that have been warned for “misappropriate use of private vehicle” related to the complaints. Chiang Mai International Airport revealed that 344 drivers have been caught for “exploitation within the premises without permission” which includes those who have been warned and fined from 100 to 2,000 baht. Officers will not fine these drivers immediately but will warn them first. At the bus terminal, there has been reportedly maximum punishment of a single driver three times, and the office has been monitoring such business.
