The 9th UOB Painting Competition at TCDC

Artist talk at TCDC Chiang Mai to announce the 9th  United Overseas Bank (Thai) PLC. Painting of the Year competition for emerging and established Thai artists to reveal their artistic passion and talent.The annual competition demonstrates UOB’s commitment to connecting communities through art. Mr. Sanchai Apisaksirikul, Managing Director and Country Head of Finance and Corporate Services, UOB (Thai), said the Bank has been uncovering, nurturing and promoting local artistic talent in Thailand through the UOB Painting of the Year competition for almost a decade. The Bank’s support of Southeast Asian art through its other programmes began four decades ago. “As a long-term champion of Southeast Asian art, UOB provides opportunities for all artists – from those just starting out to the professionals who continue to seek breakthroughs – to be recognised on the regional art stage. We hope that the UOB Painting of the Year competition will continue to help inspire Thai artists and draw them closer to other art communities in Southeast Asia.   This is in line with our commitment to helping connect people, enrich lives and strengthen communities, and in turn contribute to social progress,” Mr Sanchai said. The winner of last year’s UOB Thailand Painting of the Year and the 2017 UOB Southeast Asian Painting of the Year award was Mr. Sukit Choosri. It was the first time a Thai artist had won the regional award. At the event, the participants shared with one another their perspectives on art, the challenges and opportunities they faced and the experiences they gained from pursuing their passion at home and overseas. Present included Assistant Professor Somporn Rodboon : prominent Thai curator and a committee member at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Mr.Alongkorn Lauwatthana : The National Thai Artist and Mr. Kananek Treetantiplert : 8th UOB Painting of the Year Winner (Thailand). Submissions for the 9th UOB Painting of the Year competition will be received from 31 August to 2 September 2018. For more competition details, please visit www.uobpoy.com The winners of the 9th UOB Thailand Painting of the Year competition will be announced at an awards ceremony on 2 October 2018. The UOB Thailand Painting of the Year winner will then compete for the UOB Southeast Asian Painting of the Year award with other outstanding artists from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The country winners from the UOB Painting of the Year competition will also be considered for a month-long residency programme at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan.
