This morning, 5th October, temperatures on the summit of Doi Inthanon dropped to a chilling 7 degrees Celsius.
National Park authorities say that they have noticed a sharp increase in visitors over the past few weeks as the temperatures have cooled down and are currently working hard to maintain and fix all facilities in order to welcome more visitors, such as camping grounds, bathrooms and other National Park accommodations.
Authorities urge those who suffer from high blood pressure, asthma or any diseases to do with the respiratory system, to consult a doctor before visiting the mountain, Thailand’s tallest at 2,565 metres above sea level.
They also warn all motorists to use headlights when driving up the mountain as fog can descend quite rapidly making visibility poor and ask drivers to be very cautious.
The Meteorological Department has warned that the Mujigae Typhoon, which is centred to the west of the Philippines, is heading towards the north of Thailand and will affect weather in this area around the 5th and 6th of October, with a noticeable increase of rainfall. The next day or two will see temperatures dropping between 22-33 Celsius in Chiang Mai city with rain in 40% of the area.
