Wattana ‘Noi’ Janatpoon, 65, lives in San Pa Tong. He has driven a songtaew for over 30 years. But ten years ago, when he survives a terminal illness, Uncle Noi began providing free service for monks, people with disabilities, the elderly and students. Uncle Noi says that, while battling his illness, he prayed and promised to the sacred Doi Suthep and Kruba Srivichai that, if he recovered, he would do good deeds for Chiang Mai and in the name of HM the late King Rama IX.

Uncle Noi explained that in Chiang Mai there are many monks from the neighbouring countries who come to study, similar to a student exchange programme. He also helps migrant workers who cannot afford transportation when moving from camp to camp. He admitted that there are days when he loses profit, but he is happy.
