CityNews — According to a report by The Nation, Tourism Minister Kobkam Wattanavrangkul announced yesterday that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has approved a proposal that will grant multiple entry visas to visitors from any country, in an aim to further increase the tourism industry.
Around 30-40 countries are allowed to enter Thailand without a visa currently, but many nations are still required to pay for a visa on arrival that costs 1,000 baht, expires after 30 days, and only allows a single entry.
The new proposed visa will allow travellers to purchase a six month tourist visa on arrival and allow multiple entries. The plan is currently to charge 5,000 baht for the six month visa on arrival.
The new visa plan is expected to go into effect 60 days after receiving cabinet approval.
The new visa falls in line with current efforts to increase tourism to Thailand, as last week Thailand and Myanmar reached an agreement allowing travellers from each country to enter without a visa when travelling by plane, and can stay for up to 14 days.
The Tourism Ministry was also given the go ahead last Tuesday for a three year master plan to further develop tourism and promote sustainable development.
