The event showcased hydrangeas raised by Thai agriculturists in the north and presented an array of colours made possible by growing the flowers in soils with different PH and nutrient varieties. It also dispelled the common notion that hydrangeas can only be raised in cool temperatures, but many of them were raised during the hot months. The exhibition is also meant to be an example of a beautiful flower arrangement grown without importing flowers from abroad.

Dr. Arnada Nirantarayakun explained that hydrangeas should be planted in a shady area, where they receive about 50-60% of the day’s light. They will bloom with different colours—acidic soils producing pedals with a blue or purple colour, while a more alkaline soil will produce pink pedals.

Some believe that the hydrangea is the “flower of the cold heart,” due to its ability to withstand cold weather. Others believe that the hydrangea can be offered to mean “thank you for understanding.”

The Royal Park also invites visitors to enjoy other winter flower varieties brought to you by the Royal Project Foundation and Highland Research Development Institute, and the Royal Project Development Centre.
