CityNews – Pong Yang, Mae Rim pushed to promote a cave and a sacred stone for tourism.

The Unseen Pong Yaeng project was announced on January 8th by the Deputy Chief Executive of Pong Yaeng Subdistrict Administrative Organisation and the Acting President of Chiang Mai Rajabhat University. The project aims to promote a large scared stone that is believed was touched by the Buddha. According to local tales, when Buddha was passing through the forest he had such foresight that this area would one day turn into a village of people who had strong belief in Buddhism, so he braced his hand against this rock, so that this stone becomes a sign for man and angels. And that is the reason of the name “Ta” which is a northern language word meaning bracing against something. Near by, there is the Pha Ta Cave with a big natural stone tree which is now being considered as a national heritage site.

Dr. Pramook Benyasut, Deputy Director-General of The Botanical Garden Organisation explained that this cave is rich in its natural heritage with magnificent biodiversity and he wanted to push this place to be recognized for the nature-based tourism.

Here is the local jungle festival this past July at Pa Ta Cave.
