Nun Drowns in Ping River

CityNews – Police received reports of a woman in white “who looked like a nun” walking into the Ping River, and drowning under the Nakornping Bridge in the Chang Moi area on Friday May 22nd.

When law enforcement arrived, officials of the Chiang Mai Municipaltiy were already retrieving her body from the water. Rescue officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but were unable to save her life. Her body was then taken to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai hospital for an autopsy.

ID found on the body identified her as Jakonnee tunrangsee, 46, of Prao’s Patum sub-district in Chiang Mai.

Sua Sawing was a witness on the scene. According to his account, he observed a woman clothed in white standing at the river bank for some time. At first, he thought it was only a nun trying to get some fresh air, but then she walked into the water and disappeared. When he saw this he immediately informed officials and prompted the rescue attempt.

The investigation is ongoing.
