CityNews – After several people in Chiang Mai have complained to the municipality that the moat water is green and foul smelling, resulting in the Division of Sanitary Works and Subdivision of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office re-checking the water and adding disinfectant to ensure the water is safe for Songkran.
Chatree Chuamanocharn, Deputy Mayor of Chiang Mai, said that the green colour was from the oxygenating moss added to the water to keep it clean. He confirmed that the water is indeed safe for Songkran.
Mayor of Chiang Mai, Tassanai Buranupakorn, seconded this opinion by saying that the re-test on April 8 showed the water clean and safe for Songkran use.
