CityNews – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and Chiang Mai police joined together in arresting a Japanese man in Chiang Mai who is suspected of having sex with children as young as nine in exchange for 200 baht.
DSI officers, under Pol. Col. Paisit Wongmuang teamed up with Chiang Mai Police, Tourist Police, Probation officers and the Foundation of Child Understanding (FOCUS) and raided the home of 49-year-old Japanese national Matsubara Teruaki an arrest him on suspicion of sex with children aged between nine and 13 years of age.
The arrest came after information provided by the Foreign Affairs and Transnational Crime Office provided information linking Matsubara to paying just 150 – 200 baht in exchange for sex with children in Chiang Mai.
Most of the children were homeless according to the information.
According to the police it is yet unclear how the man acquired the children and whether he forcefully raped them or just convinced them to consent to sexual intercourse.
After the man was arrested, he confessed that he had had sex with many children since the beginning of May.
Police are continuing their investigation.
