The deal was for 600 thousand Yaba pills which police have now seized.

The two mules were transporting the drugs in the Mae Fah Luang area of Chiang Rai, and were scheduled to deliver the drugs to another person at an Esso gas station in Pa Sang.

Police knew about the transport after a tip-off.

Police observed the deal before storming the gas station. One drug deal opened fire with a handgun, but was soon shot and killed at the scene.

The second drug dealer managed to escape in a car but police soon caught up with him. A moving gun battle occurred on the road towards Baan Ta Ton Fan before the dealer threw a grenade out of his car at police.

The explosion missed the police and the dealer was shot dead soon after.

After investigation of the scene, police determined the two men to be from a hill tribe but are still unsure as to which tribe.
