Cold Temperatures to Stay Until Jan 27

CityNews – Temperatures in the Chiang Mai province have dropped to an average of 11 degrees Celsius today according to the Northern Meteorological Department, and is expected to stay low for the next few days.

This morning, the lowest temperature recorded in Muang district was 13 degrees Celsius.

The Director of the Northern Meteorological Department, Maytee Mahayosanata, said that the cold eastern winds will continue to bring cold weather to Thailand until January 27. After January 27 the temperatures will quickly rise back to normal levels for this time of year.

He also added that this is the coldest Chiang Mai has been in over 20 years.

People have been advised to wrap up warm and to be extra careful at night, especially after drinking alcohol.

Animals in the Night Safari and the Zoo have also suffered from the cold, with many becoming sick. Bonfires, piles of hay and other measures have been put into place to keep the animals warm.
