CityNews – Dr Nirundorn Potikanon, advisor to the Chiang Mai Sunday Bicycle Club, has called on the local government and other relevant institutions to improve bike lanes in the city, claiming the current system does not work.

According to reports, Dr Nirundorn claims the painted bicycle images on the roads around Chiang Mai have no influence on where cars and motorcycles drive and park, leaving cyclists confused and not confident to ride on the ‘designated’ routes.

He asked the relevant authorities to create a clear, designated system to prevent confusion and ensure safety for both tourists and local cyclists alike.

It was also added that using a bicycle as your main mode of transport is beneficial to your health and helps reduce traffic.

Following the recent speed limits around the moat of 40kmh, Dr Nirundorn has suggested that anywhere with a bicycle lane should be limited to 30kmh.
