CityNews – 9th September, Suriya Prasartbandit, Governor of Chiang Mai, presided over the one year report titled, ‘Stability, Wealth, Sustainability: Returning Happiness to the People of Chiang Mai’ held at the central stage of the Lanna Expo 2015 at the International Convention Centre.
The governor said that in the past year Chiang Mai has followed the policies set by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha and strategies set by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) which is in line and appropriate for the needs of the people in the area in order to achieve the five year target of making Thailand stable, wealthy and sustainable.
As to stability, the prime minister general said that he has focused on the prevention and crackdown on human trafficking, on the restructuring of the alien labourers as well as on the ‘police eye’ CCTV project. As to wealth, he has increased the prices of agricultural products, elevated the competitiveness of agricultural goods as well as improving their standards and competitiveness, especially with lamyai and rice. He also talked about the Northern Thailand Food Valley project which helps promote cultural tourism. As to sustainability, local authorities have all been improved and urged to work together to use the law to help stop the annual burning issues, a water divergence tunnel has been built in Mae Tang’s Mae Ngad Dam as well as Doi Saket’s Mae Guang Dam. Local hospitals and their services have been improved as well as garbage management. He says that a border point with Myamar has also been opened in Vieng Haeng District Chiang Mai. He also mentions two plans currently in the pipeline, one being to attempt to get Chiang Mai listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site and the other to implement a comprehensive public transportation system. All of this so that Chiang Mai can realise its vision of becoming a city of life and wealth.
The governor then went on to report on the work done by other local governing bodies.
