CityNews – Chiang Mai has been brought to the national stage after activist Boom Mosby was named as TIP Report Hero at the 2017 Trafficking in Persons Report Launch Ceremony.
Werawan ‘Boom’ Mosby recieved the award in person from Ivanka Trump and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson at the presentation of the annual US State Department report on Trafficking in Persons. She was among eight others who received awards but was the only one to attend the event and make a speech on June 27. The speech mentioned a story about a victim named Jane, where Boom said that “Human trafficking is not a crime against an individual but a crime against human’s dignities.”
She also dedicated part of the speech to the Late King, Rama IX. “He was always referred to as the father of our nation. He truly looked at Thai people as his children, having compassion to their suffering and working hard to improve their lives. Today I call upon the government, leaderships and ordinary citizens of very country to follow the late Thais’ King example and look after their people as their children.”
As the founder of the HUG Project, Boom has been dedicating her life to help save children in northern Thailand from human trafficking, exploitation and abuse. The project was founded on June 2012. It was reported that last year the project has saved over 30 children and more 20 children this year.
