Thong said that last year, Chiang Mai saw 5,161 people contract Dengue fever, with four deaths as a result of the virus.

Doi Saket was the worst affected, followed by Mae Rim, Mae Wang and Saraphi.

From 1st January 2016 to 28th February 2016, 112 people had contracted Dengue fever, an number higher than the last five years.

Thong asked Chiang Mai to be vigilant and try and destroy any breeding grounds found to help prevent a serious outbreak. The campaign will explore typical locations for breeding grounds, such as temples, schools and water sources.
