Cabinet Approved Light Rail Transit System

CityNews – The cabinet has approved the light rail transit system.

The announcement was made yesterday, September 11th by the government spokesman, Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd that the cabinet has approved the light rail transit system in Chiang Mai, Phang Nga and Phuket. As for Chiang Mai, a 20 billion baht budget has been approved for the project. The total distance is at 34.93 km, about 24 km of which is to be underground. Three major routes include:

1. Red route, 12.54 km. 12 stations include Nakorn Ping hospital, Airport, Big C Hang Dong. (on ground 5.17 km, underground 7.37 km).
2. Bule route 11.92 km. 13 stations include Chiang Mai Zoo, Tha Pae, Railway Station and Don Jun. (on ground 3.15 km, underground 8.77 km).
3. Green route, 10.47 km. 10 stations include Ruam Chok Intersection, Warrot Market and Airport. (on ground 2.55 km, underground 7.92 km).

The project is now on the process of investment study with expectation to be concluded in 2019. The bidding is planned for 2020 and the construction will start in the following year.
