Authorities Warn against Chinese Recruitment of Massage Therapists for Sex

CityNews – The Department of Employment warns Thai citizens to be alert to illegal Chinese agents who are advertising to lure women into prostitution.

The Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour has warned Thai citizens to be aware of online job advertisements, especially those for massage therapist recruitment, explaining that workers are at risk of being scammed and led into prostitution.

Pornpawee Wichit of Chiang Mai Employment Office stated that there are overseas employment opportunities advertised in Chiang Mai especially for massage work in China. The office explained that scammers may use attractive benefits to lure workers, such as high salaries, free accommodation and transportation. These agents will reportedly appointed candidates to meet at hotels or resorts and will ask for a trial massage. The office explained that such procedure is illegal according to Employment Protection and Job Seeker Act 1985.
