Supoj Prommanot, director of Chiang Mai fine art department, investigated areas in the Chiang Mai Women’s Correctional Institution following reports of possible antiques by a geologist Kasetsart University.

After gaining access, two to three digs were organised where ancient pottery and coins were found.

Preliminary investigations suggest the coins were from the era of King Rama V and the pottery was dated back to the Ming and Qing dynasties of the Chinese empire.

They have been given another 75 days to conduct more digs and hopefully find more artifacts.
