CityNews – A forest survey was conducted for students to develop appreciation of nature.

On May 20th, Doi Suthep-Pui National Park in collaboration with Green Beauty Scented Network and environmental activists in Chiang Mai held a forest survey activity for students from Ban Doi Suthep School and volunteers. Over 40 participants hiked from Mae Jok Luang Reservoir to an area near the (nearly ex-)judicial residences in Doi Suthep. The activity was guided by Jiraporn Meewasana of the National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation Department (Chiang Mai Office) who distributed the knowledge and skills in observing the forest, local plants and the ecosystem of the forest. Changes in the forest from the past was pointed out along with roles and benefits of local plants and mushrooms. Participants got a chance to collect seeds during the survey to continue to the next week planting activity. The hosts saw this activity as an investment in forming a bond between youths and nature through an actual practice and hands on experience.
