CityNews – The Hang Dong District Primate called for an emergency meeting due to a scandal first revealed by a Facebook post of a monk claiming to be the abbot of a temple in Hang Dong.

A Facebook page named Sum Nak Khao Charoen Puang posted a picture of a bare topped man wearing a small piece of a monk’s saffron robe, which barely covered his private parts, with a caption saying “Nice post for an abbot of a famous temple in Hang Dong, Chiang Mai. Ei ei Charoen see-through @Luangjohn”. The post went viral and generated outrage with demands to find the offending monk.

CityNews visited Wat Ban Pong in Hang Dong, the temple named in the post, on November 12th. The post claimed to feature pictures of the abbot of this famous temple. However, it was clear that the abbot interviewed was not said that the man featured wasn’t any of the four monks resident in his temple.

On November 13th, the Hang Dong District Primate called for an emergency meeting about the scandal. All monks who participated in the meeting denied any involvement and knowledge of the man in the pictures. A committee has been set up to investigate the scandal.
