The meeting was also attended by many other representatives and guests.

According to General Thanasak, despite the US keeping Thailand at the lowest tier in their Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP Report), Tier 3, he was not disappointed. He said that the ranking didn’t reflect the real efforts and progress made on preventing human trafficking, nor Thailand’s considerations towards human rights.

He also insisted that the Thai government is working hard for justice and human rights.

The ranking also states that Thailand has not yet prosecuted any high-ranking offiials involved with human trafficking. General Thanasak believes many ‘wrong-doers’ have been prosecuted. He also said that Thailand has ‘better ways’ at dealing with human trafficking.

According to Sek Wannamethee, director-general of the Information Department and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting was successful in creating a more intimate relationship between the two countries and expanding cooperation in all dimensions.

The meeting covered many topics such as politics, economy, society, and culture.

The two countries also exchanged information about narcotics along the borders and pledged cooperation in solving human trafficking.

From August 11, Thai and Burmese citizens traveling by plane to either country may enter visa-free and stay in the country for up to 14 days.
