CityNews – July 23, foreign families with adopted Thai children along with representatives of the Chiang Mai Office of Social Development and Human Security visited the birthplace and hometown of the adopted children, giving them a chance to experience their heritage and understand more about Thai people.
Families with adopted Thai children from over 15 countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Demark, Finland and France, attended the event.
This event was the 8th Nativeland Visit Program, organised by the Office of Social Development and Human Security.
Over 400 people joined the program, with activities including visiting Phrathat Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai as well as touring important historical sites in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, planting trees to honour Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, studying Hmong culture and royal initiative projects, and much more.
The children also had a chance to visit their original home town and the workhouse they used to live in. They also were introduced to Thai culture and way of life, and according to reports, the children were proud of their Thai heritage.
The Nativeland Visit Program was introduced in accordance with the 60th birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
