CityNews – Last Monday (February 8th), Chiang Mai Deputy Governor Mongkol Suksai chaired a meeting at Chiang Mai City Hall to check readiness for the coming practice – no burning in 60 days, from 15 February – 15 April.
According to Vice Governor Mongkol, since January 1st, there have been 57 hotspots found in 25 districts in Chiang Mai. After February 16, burning is not allowed in the province. Those who don’t follow this practice will be prosecuted.
This year Chiang Mai aims to reduce by 50 per cent the hot spot areas, from last year. He says that there must be zero cancellations of flights this year.
Authorities and officials involved have been assigned to get ready to distinguish fire in their designated areas when it occurs.
Latest, Raks Mae Ping Facebook page has posted on a message saying “Chiang Mai Governor Pawin Chamniprasart informed that the ceasing early burning has now been declared. And the law is being enforced. Be careful all burners! You will be prosecuted!”
Some Facebook users commented on the post showing their agreement and wanted the governor to take this matter seriously.
