Seven Coffee Shops in Soi Wat Umong

 |  January 31, 2018

Soi Wat Umong is becoming the latest go-to location for Chiang Mai’s coffee lovers and students looking for a fun place to study. With dozens of coffee shops along just one soi, we thought we would find seven that stood out from the crowd.

Yellow Mango

Some attribute this big yellow house to kick starting the Soi Wat Umong coffee shop trend. Hard to miss, there is a nice garden where live acoustic is played most days and you can even create your own coffee by mixing up to seven different ingredients together as you see fit.

Open 10am – 6pm
8/8 Moo 5 Suthep

Ram Poeng Café
This small café is found near Wat Ram Poeng, and is one of those peaceful and serene type of cafes. Super cheap, quiet and a great place to read a book, do some work or secretly meet a love interest.

Open 10am – 8pm
13/2 Moo 5 Baan Ram Poeng, Suthep

The Old Chiang Mai Café & Espresso Bar

This coffee shop can be found in the popular Baan Kang Wat art community. Their espressos are on point and their other coffees are also strong, fresh and make a great Instagram post if you are so inclined.

Paper Spoon

This is a Soi Wat Umong classic, popping up well before the trend. Little wooden houses each sell something different — one with coffee and the others with handmade products. Although a coffee shop, their best seller is the scone with hot flower tea.

Open 10.30am – 4.30pm
36/14 Moo 10, Suthep

Begin Again

This two story café is decorated in a modern style that seems to complement the arty vibes of the area. Surrounded by lots of trees, it’s popular among those looking to escape for an hour or two.

Open 10am – 7pm
85 Moo 5 (Soi King Pai 3), Suthep

No. 39

Big trees, cool pond, tinkling fountains and even a two storey tree house that even has a slider if you need to get down in a hurry. This place is a lot of fun to hang out at and there is live music at weekends.

Open 9.30am – 7pm
Soi Wat Umong (near For-est Hill Apartment)

Factory Coffee

This café is street in style, with concrete walls, bare wiring and pipes, and a graffiti mural painted on one of the walls that is a big hit with the selfie-takers out there. They even do free delivery in the area on orders of five cups or more.

Open 10am – 8pm (Closed Tuesdays)
