Quirky Eats

 |  July 30, 2015

Take an extended lunch break or enjoy an even longer dinner at one of these three new establishments offering quirky but top quality food. With motorcycle themes and Asian takes on burgers, there seems no end to the amazing minds of some of Chiang Mai’s newest restaurant owners.

Springrolls2

Burgers and Springrolls
There are many restaurants in Chiang Mai that claim to offer fusion recipes of Western and Thai food, but Burgers and Springrolls takes it to a new level with their practical approach to the Western burger joint that combines the best flavours of Northern Thai cuisine. Nusara Thaitawat has travelled around the world while working with the Bangkok Post, and habitually dives into food culture everywhere she goes. You absolutely must try the green curry burger, a spicy delicious chicken burger patty ground and seasoned in-house and infused with traditional green curry resulting in a savoury, spicy mouthful of deliciousness wedged between a delightfully soft burger bun and topped with veggies. Throw in some warm Chiang Mai sausage spring rolls and you have an amazing combo of hand-held eats to wash down with a cold imported bottle of beer.

Open daily, 8am – 9pm
1/1-2 Ratwitthi Road

Natwat2

Natwat Home Cafe
This breakfast restaurant and cafe is well known to many in Chiang Mai already, but with a slight re-design and a larger menu than before, Natwat Home Cafe steps into the forefront of popular bakery cum restaurant locations in the city. Owned by a young man who has a passion for baking his own pastries, breads and other interesting treats, Natwat could be described as a coffee shop with a mixture of modern and loft styles to really bring your dining experience into the 21st century. With wooden tables and chairs, a choice of garden or air conditioned seating, there is something for all. Indulge yourself on a Parma ham sandwich, a selection of blue cheeses and a snapper fish steak. Wash it down with some carefully selected, roasted and ground coffee beans, served to perfection every time.

Open 7am – 4pm (closed Mondays)

Try-Ummm-cafe1

Try Umm Cafe
From the makers of Harley Boat Noodle, the wildly successful biker themed noodle restaurant in Bangkok, comes Try Umm Cafe, the next addition of bike themed hangouts around the country offering delicious noodles, pizzas and other fusion style delights. Themed with Triumph memorabilia (get it? Triumph, Try Umm), the unique concept joins modern biker themes with old recipes handed down from the owner’s grandmother. We are all imagining a biker grandma right now, right? Enjoy Thai classics such as boat noodles with beef, meat balls served with Bangkok style noodles and crispy dumplings. They even serve crispy pan fried pizzas at very reasonable prices. Enjoy live music while you dine after 7.30pm every night.
