Behind the curtains of the Barista Competition Stage

Acting Sub Lieutenant Priet ‘Neaung’ Nathibapaythis is the owner of the successful Hohm Café. He entered the coffee world after being inspired and energised by attending the Thailand Indy Barista Championship. Two years later he himself entered and came eighth in the Thailand Indy Barista Championship, propelling him to fully invest in Chiang Mai’s coffee culture.

“My first signature coffee which I developed for the championship was Mist Lanna, gently roasted coffee beans infused with lemon zest, steam and rosemary blossom vapour which was very well received.”

This year Neaung entered the International Thailand Barista competition with his latest coffee, Niras Nanglae. The competition was held in Chiang Rai and he selected the province’s best fruits such as Nang Lae pineapple and lychee, adding these flavours as well as honey and vanilla to the coffee to be marinated overnight to create a unique aroma and flavour, taking home the first prize.

“I hope to one day become a coffee coach, helping the younger generations learn about the fascinating world of coffee, giving them barista skills and understanding.”
