Special Scoop: Mix Restaurant

Mix lives up to its name. This bold restaurant takes cuisine by the horns and mixes up food from different cultures, countries, and at times even courses, to create a unique menu that screams Mix.

Colours clash and complement in a kaleidoscope of creativity; starters are enhanced into mains, elements of desserts are fused into appetisers and soups are deconstructed into entre’es. One is never quite sure what a bite is going to taste like, but is guaranteed a taste explosion nonetheless…the chefs at Mix seem to be allergic to blandness of any kind.

Mix’s ambitions do not simply stop with a few creative dishes. In fact, with a menu featuring over 230 items, you really need to go back again and again just to find your favourite dish! The cuisine can be Thai, Chinese, European, international, or all and none at the same time.

While the cuisine is all mixed up, the de’cor is similarly eclectic with cosy garden zones, more formal tables as well as intimate indoor lounge areas. Not quite ready to sit on their blended laurels, Mix presents diners with a choice of over 80 cocktails (25 of which are mind-boggling molecular cocktails), 500 labels of wines and beers from a United Nations of countries around the world.

Mix has obviously got the right mix because they were chosen by Thailand Tatler as one of Thailand’s Best Restaurants in 2012 and 2013, by Cleo Magazine as one of Thailand’s Most Romantic Restaurants in 2009, as the Top Ten Most Chilled Restaurants in Thailand by Manager Online in 2013, and as one of the Best Places to Hang Out by Thailand Restaurant News 2013. They have also been reviewed by such publications as Gourmet and Cuisine Magazine, Food for Life, Thailand Restaurant News, Living and more.

Mix has also been featured on many television programmes including Independent Kitchen, Ban San Rak and Aroy Channel 5, Jaew Joh Koh Tid, Tee Uan Chuan Hew, 108 Living, Oh My Guide by Shin and more.

With one branch off Nimman here in Chiang Mai and two others in Bangkok – Terminal 21 and Wieng Jan – Mix is also set to open two more franchises in the coming year, one here in Chiang Mai’s Promenada and another in Bangkok’s Siam Paragon.

And the best news for we value-for-money loving Chiang Mai residents is that Mix is affordable. The management has thought about everything and has therefore created a menu where they believe an average person can dine to their heart’s content for under 300 baht.
